(Enjoying my book? I would be so grateful if you post a review on Amazon here and/or recommend it to some friends!)

We left California on Sept 23rd, 2017, and drove south. We explored for 2.5 years until central Argentina, where we got stuck for a year in COVID quarantine. We moved back into the van in January 2021 and traveled as far south as we could get, within the constraints of COVID rules. We then returned to our temporary home in central Argentina and continued our battle with Argentine Customs, but ultimately could not convince them to let Vancito stay any longer. We left Vancito in a shipping container in Buenos Aires, and flew to California on March 26th, 2021. Vancito finally showed up in Texas in early June.

In total, we drove 29,588 miles. That’s about 200 miles per week – far less than a typical week of commuting in the California Bay area! (Approximate, I excluded the year we stopped in Argentina)

We slept in the van 533 nights over 3.5 years. The non-van nights were: a year in a rental house in Argentina, 3 months in a house in Ecuador and 3 months in Costa Rica, staying on islands that the van couldn’t get to (Galapagos & Belize), staying at friends’ houses, stuck in hotel when van was at mechanic, camping on multi-day hikes, and home rentals when friends flew out to visit us.
